HISTORICAL INSPIRATION

The Frog of the Nile Earrings are inspired by the frogs and water plants that formed part of the living landscape of ancient Egypt. Each year, the Nile's floodwaters transformed the land. As the water retreated, pools and wetlands became alive with plants, insects, birds and frogs. Ancient Egyptian artists and craftspeople observed this natural world closely, representing frogs in small objects and decorative forms. The accompanying Story Image shows a frog on a lotus pad from Dynasty 18, preserving the same connection between animal and water plant that inspired the Shinar design. The earrings reinterpret that relationship through a tiny sculptural frog resting upon a radiating golden lily pad.

THE STORY

Life Along the Nile

Each year, the waters of the Nile transformed the Egyptian landscape.

As the floodwaters receded, pools and wetlands filled with plants and wildlife. Among the most familiar creatures to emerge were frogs, appearing in great numbers across the fertile landscape.

Their presence became closely connected with the rhythm of the river and the return of life after the flood.

Ancient craftspeople captured these small creatures in objects that survive today, often placing them alongside the water plants of their natural habitat.

The Frog of the Nile Earrings continue that story in miniature.

Each golden lily pad is textured with fine radiating lines, while a tiny frog rests upon its surface — a playful detail inspired by the wildlife that once surrounded the Nile.
