THE STORY

Treasures Through Palmyra

Rising from the Syrian desert, Palmyra became one of the ancient world's great crossroads.

Its position placed the city between the Mediterranean world and trading networks extending eastwards. Merchants moved valuable materials across enormous distances, while Palmyra became a meeting point for different traditions, languages and styles.

Precious materials were ideally suited to this world of exchange. Pearls, coloured stones, glass and worked metal could travel far from their places of origin before reaching workshops and markets where they were transformed into jewellery.

The Palmyra Pearl Drops celebrate this movement of material and colour.

A luminous pearl sits among pale blush crystal and faceted golden hematite, bringing together three contrasting surfaces: the soft lustre of nacre, the transparency of crystal and the brilliance of polished metallic facets.

Rather than reproducing one particular ancient jewel, the earrings evoke the extraordinary exchange that connected distant communities across the ancient world.
