The Natural Amber Flower Earrings draw upon the ancient fascination with amber — a material valued across Europe and the Mediterranean long before the modern world. Amber is fossilised tree resin, prized for its extraordinary warmth, translucency and natural variation. By the Roman period, amber from northern Europe was reaching Mediterranean markets through extensive trade networks and was transformed into beads, jewellery and small luxury objects. Roman amber could be sufficiently prestigious to be carved into elaborate miniature forms. Rather than reproducing a single archaeological object, Shinar combines this ancient material history with a decorative flower form, placing a cabochon of natural amber at the heart of layers of sculpted golden petals.
