HISTORICAL INSPIRATION

The Greek Classical Amphora Earrings draw inspiration from the miniature vessel-shaped jewellery created by Greek goldsmiths during the Late Classical and Hellenistic periods. Amphora forms were translated from full-sized ceramic vessels into remarkably delicate ornaments, complete with curved handles, rounded bodies and intricate decorative details. The accompanying Story Image shows a pair of surviving gold amphora pendant earrings dating to the 4th–3rd century BC. Rather than reproducing the ancient earrings directly, Shinar takes inspiration from their miniature vessel form, elaborate goldwork and sculptural proportions, placing a vivid pink tourmaline at the centre of each contemporary design.

THE STORY

The Golden Amphorae of Ancient Greece

In the workshops of ancient Greece, goldsmiths transformed precious metal into jewellery of astonishing delicacy.

Among their creations were tiny amphorae — miniature versions of the vessels used throughout the Greek world.

Instead of clay, these small forms were worked in gold. Curving handles, rounded bodies and finely applied decoration turned an everyday vessel shape into something precious enough to wear.

A surviving pair dating to the 4th–3rd century BC shows just how elaborate these miniature jewels could become.

The Greek Classical Amphora Earrings continue that tradition in a contemporary form.

Scrolling golden handles rise above each oval body, while fine borders and beaded details frame a polished pink tourmaline at the centre.

Designed to match the Classical Greek Pink Tourmaline Amphora Necklace, the earrings bring together ancient vessel forms, gemstone colour and the intricate character of Greek goldwork.
