HISTORICAL INSPIRATION

The Lotus Ring draws inspiration from the lotus flower, one of the most important decorative and symbolic motifs of ancient Egypt. Associated with the sun, creation and rebirth, the lotus appeared throughout Egyptian art, jewellery and religious ornament. Surviving examples include an exquisite gold lotus pendant dating to approximately 1981–1550 BCE, now preserved in The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Its carefully arranged gold outlines and colourful inlays reflect the Egyptian tradition of combining precious materials with stylised floral designs. Shinar reimagines these traditions through two symmetrical lotus motifs, finished in turquoise ceramic enamel and polished gold.

THE STORY

The Sacred Lotus of Ancient Egypt

For thousands of years, the lotus flower was one of ancient Egypt's most important symbols.

Rising from the waters of the Nile and opening its petals with the morning sun, the lotus represented creation, renewal and rebirth.

Its distinctive form appeared throughout Egyptian art, from temple decorations and painted tombs to elaborate jewellery and precious ornaments.

Surviving treasures, including a gold and gemstone lotus pendant dating to approximately 1981–1550 BC, reveal how Egyptian craftsmen transformed this sacred flower into beautifully detailed jewellery.

Inspired by these ancient traditions, Shinar's bestselling Lotus Ring features two symmetrical lotus motifs, their delicate golden outlines filled with rich turquoise ceramic enamel.

A timeless symbol of renewal, reimagined as a contemporary golden jewel.

From the banks of the Nile to a jewel worn today.
