THE STORY

The Palmettes of Persia

More than two thousand years ago, the palaces and ceremonial spaces of Achaemenid Persia were decorated with an extraordinary vocabulary of carved ornament.

Alongside monumental architecture and carefully ordered reliefs appeared smaller decorative forms — repeating leaves, flowers and stylised vegetal motifs arranged with remarkable balance and precision.

Among these was the palmette, a fan-like floral form whose layered curves could be repeated across architectural borders and decorative surfaces.

The Persepolis Palmette Earrings take inspiration from this ancient ornamental language.

Each pendant is constructed from overlapping golden curves, creating the appearance of layered petals or leaves. Its compact form transforms a motif once associated with monumental Persian architecture into something intimate enough to be worn.

Originally created as part of Shinar Jewels' designs for The British Museum's From Greece to Persia exhibition, the piece celebrates the artistry and decorative sophistication of the Achaemenid world.
